She was a bit different from what she'd imagined.
"Ma'am, this Ms. Flora isn't quite what the rumors suggested. She's actually quite pleasant," Mr. Davis, the butler, stood respectfully by her side.
During their journey, he'd been observing Flora too. The young woman didn't talk much and, though she seemed aloof around strangers, she was polite and carried herself with grace. In no way did she fall short compared to the aristocratic daughters from Lone Island. Amanda remained silent, her gaze lingering on Flora for several seconds before stepping forward and descending the staircase.
Kruz had been chatting with Flora, but at the sound of footsteps, he quickly stood up straight.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtSeeing Amanda coming down the stairs, he let out an exaggerated "Wow! Who's this stunning beauty? She's absolutely gorgeous!" He grinned cheekily, "Mom, you makefeel so inferior with your looks. When we go out, people who know us think we're mother and son, but those who don't would mistake us for siblings!" The butler couldn't help but chuckle.
Amanda was used to his antics and ignored him, walking straight to the couch and sitting down.
"Ms. Flora?" She looked towards Flora.
"Hello, Aunt," Flora nodded lightly.
"Please, have a seat." Flora sat down, and Kruz was about to plop down as well when Amanda shot him a look, "Did I say you could sit?" Kruz quietly lifted himself back up.
"Ms. Flora is not quite what I had imagined." "Aunt, you're not what I expected either," Flora blinked, "You've taken such good care of yourself. It's hard to believe you're the mother of several children. If Kruz hadn't called you 'mom,' I would've thought you were his sister!" Kruz's mouth twitched. Flora really knew how to play to her audience! The butler was taken aback too. He had pegged Flora as a cold beauty, but she turned out to be so eloquent and sweet-talking.
No woman dislikes being complimented on her youth, and suddenly, Amanda found Flora much more likable. But remembering what Flora had done before, Amanda's expression cooled again.
"Ms. Flora, I'm quite straightforward, so I'll tell you plainly, I'm not very fond of you." Indeed, she had taken excellent care of herself being a mother of three yet without a single wrinkle on ber for a faint line near her face sav eyes.
Her tone was calm, as was her gaze.
"A year ago, Connor broke his legs, and it took a kenowned doctor and much effort to heal him," Amanda said coldly. "He wouldn't tellhow it happened, purposely keeping it from me, but I found out it had something to do with you, Ms. Flora." "It was you who pushed him down the stairs." Hearing this, Kruz looked at Flora in astonishment. Flora pushed his big brother down the stairs? Could there be smisunderstanding here?! Flora always behaved so well in front of his brother, and they seemed so close; it just didn't seem possible that she would do such a thing.

Flora sat upright, her arms resting on her knees, meeting Amanda's gaze directly "But now, I really like him, I really do,"

Amanda pursed her lips, about to speak, when the butler's voice rang out: "Mr. Connor..." Connor? Flora quickly looked in the direction the butler was gazing.
And there, standing at the entrance, was Connor.
He had just rushed back from outside, still carrying a slight chill with him.
