Chapter 401 Sam Secretly Stays in LA Penelope tried to stay calm.

"Mom, I still want to go to the sschool as Sam," Lucy said. "Whether it's in the county or LA." Penelope patted her head. "Got it." She'd thought about Sam's future too.

Sam was smart, with a high IQ and a talent for piano. But staying in the small county would limit his opportunities.

The county was too small and underdeveloped compared to LA.

Penelope planned to save enough money to move Sam to a bigger city for school when he got older. For her kids' future, she'd go anywhere but LA, but fate had other plans and brought her back.

At the Walker house, Sam sat on the sofa, lost in thought.

"Sam, want sfresh cherries?" Ruby offered a plate of fruit. "You must be tired after playing all day." He shook his head. "No, thanks." "What's wrong?" Ruby asked, noticing his mood. "Missing your mom and Lucy?" Sam shook his head again.

He was usually lively, but his quietness worried her.

Ruby was about to say more when Brandon cdownstairs.

He noticed too. "Sam, why so down?" "Uncle Brandon, can you geta ticket for tomorrow morning?" "Morning?" Brandon was surprised. "In a hurry to go back to the county?" He had planned to take Sam to the mall, the beach, and then have Ruby take him back in the evening.

"Nothing fun here," Sam shrugged. "I'd rather go hearly." "Didn't you have fun at the amusement park today?" "Yeah, I did." Brandon smiled and patted his head. "Tomorrow can be even more fun." Sam sighed. "The whole amusement park belongs to Lucy. That's great." "It's yours too," Brandon said. "You can go anytyou want." Sam looked at him. "I actually know everything." Sam's clear, bright eyes made his words convincing.

Brandon nodded. "You're smart; you must've figured it out when you saw Kelvin." "Yeah." "Sam, don't overthink it. Your mom and Lucy still love you; they just can't acknowledge you right now," Brandon said. "But it won't last long." "Mom just doesn't want Dad to know about me," Sam said bluntly.

He analyzed, "Lucy is sick, and only Uncle Kelvin can help. Mom had to bring her to LA. But I'm healthy; I don't need him. Lucy might stay in LA with Dad, but Mom can't losetoo. If Lucy stays with Dad, I stay with Mom. I don't blLucy. She's a girl and should be treated like a princess!" Brandon looked at him, taking a moment to process.

Because Sam was right! "Sam, it's good you understand," Brandon said. "Once Kelvin knows you're his son, do you think he'll let Penelope take you away?" Penelope won't stand a chance. Kelvin has money and power, and the judge will likely side with him. You don't want that, right?" "Yeah, I get it. That's why I didn't acknowledge Uncle Kelvin at the amusement park. I wasn't mad. Uncle Brandon, I..." He hesitated.

"What's up? Just tell me," Brandon said. "I'll do whatever I can." "I want to stay in LA until Lucy's surgery is done, then go back to the county with Mom. I don't want her to cto LA with Lucy and return alone. That would make her sad." How could Brandon refuse such a thoughtful request? Sam was so considerate. Once Lucy wastaken by the Davis family, Penelope wouldbe left alone. How sad would she be? But Penelope was strong-willed and would keep everything to herself, making it hard for others to comfort her. Sam being there would be a silent yet powerful comfort.

Brandon's heart softened. "Alright! You can stay here." "Really?" Sam asked.

"I always keep my word." "Thanks, Uncle Brandon." Ruby was surprised. "Mr. Walker, are you sure? Shouldn't you discuss it with Penelope?" Brandon and Sam said in unison, "No need!" Ruby stared at them, puzzled.

"I'm not going to the hospital, and I won't see them every day," Sam said. "I'll just be there from a distance." Let's keep this from Penelope for now. She has enough to worry about with Lucy's surgery.

"It's settled then," Brandon said. "I'll help you get into a kindergarten, and you'll start on Monday." "Yay!" Sam cheered, jumping on the sofa.

"Be careful," Ruby said. "Don't fall. It's late; wash up and go to bed." She took Sam's hand and led him to the servant's quarters.

Brandon had arranged a big room for Ruby. It wasn't as nice as the guest rooms, but it was clean and spacious.

Just as they reached the door, Isabella cback.

"Good evening, Ms. Mitchell," Ruby greeted, stepping aside.

Isabella nodded and glanced at Sam. "Whose child is this?" "Oh, this is my grandson. He'll be staying withfor a while. Sorry for any inconvenience." "Kids can be noisy. Make sure he doesn't break anything." "Yes, Ms. Mitchell." Sam stood quietly next to Ruby.

After Isabella left, he asked, "Ruby, who is she?" "That's Mr. Walker's fiancée." "Oh, so it's her."

Sam thought, 'Compared to Penelope, she's far inferior. And she's not a good match for Brandon.

Brandon deserves someone gentle, considerate, and beautiful!' Sam didn't like Isabella at all.
