"Allie, just wait here for me, okay? I'll be back in a minute," Allison said.

Brooklyn nodded. "Okay."

Joshua didn't waste any the led Allison straight to the executive elevator and pressed the button for the

twenty-eighth floor.

Inside, it was just the two of them. The small space felt even smaller in the quiet, their breathing the only sound.

Joshua stood right next to Allison, so close she could smell his cologne-a cool, woody scent that suited him

perfectly. The space between them was practically nonexistent, their clothes almost touching.

It was a little too close for comfort. Allison edged away, trying to put sspace between them.

Joshua's eyes caught her movement. He raised an eyebrow and leaned down, his lips nearly brushing her ear.

"Afraid | might bite?" he whispered, his voice low and teasing.

Allison's ears turned pink. She pressed her lips together, not answering.

A lazy smile spread across Joshua's face, satisfied.

The elevator doors opened straight into his office.

Allison followed Joshua out. The entire top floor belonged to him-one sweep of cool silvers and deep charcoals,

like winter morning light before sunrise.

The walls were matte dark marble, hung with a few striking pieces of modern art- bold lines and cold colors that

matched the vibe of the place. Everything was minimalist and sharp, just like Joshua himself.

A silver-grey screen divided the space in half. One side was set up for meetings,

with a black sofa and coffee table; the other, his workspace.

Allison glanced around. "Should | wait for you over here on the sofa?"

"Cwith me," Joshua said, his voice smooth and quiet.

She trailed after him, past the partition, and noticed a door tucked away in the corner. Joshua opened it.

The décor matched the rest of the office-cool, elegant, a little distant.

"This is my lounge," Joshua said.

Allison looked at the boxes, then checked her watch. It was already seven.

She frowned. "That's a lot... |

"I'll have someone deliver the files to your firm in the morning, then?"

Allison nodded. "That's perfect. I'll head out, then."
