Chapter 858 Everett paused for a moment, giving Alex a nod.

Catching on quickly, Alex nodded back, "Alright, Mr. Everett. I get it. If there's nothing else, I'll head back to the office." Everett gave a slight nod.

With a smile, Alex waved goodbye to Haley, "Bye, Auntie has to go now." Haley waved her chubby little hand, "Bye-bye, Auntie." Her sweet, innocent voice could melt anyone's heart.

No wonder the big boss, the mighty CEO, was wrapped around her little finger.

Alex mused, even though she wasn't keen on marriage and preferred the single life, finding a guy with good genes to father a child, particularly a daughter, seemed like a pretty good plan.

It was about tshe put this on her agenda. She needed to find the right guy for the job before she ended up being an older mom.

After Alex left, Everett looked at his daughter's messy ponytail and felt his competitive spirit kick in. He plopped back down on the carpet, determined to master the art of braiding hair.

Once she was out of the detention center, Joy jetted off to Spain for a little R&R and a minor tweak to her looks. She was all in on reinventing herself as a strong, independent woman, a modern- day heroine chasing true love. It was the perfect way to shake off the humiliation from that school reunion.

These days, if you nail the right persona, you can turn things around and even gain a loyal fanbase.

Plus, she'd heard Selena had lost it, battling severe depression-a thought that made Joy smile even in her dreams.

Later, her brother informed her that the hitman was dead, leaving her with no loose ends to worry about. Joy had a blast for two weeks, until her plane touched down in Newport.

At the airport, a breaking news story flashed across a large screen.

The hitman, Devin, involved in a hit-and-run a few years back and et who'd skipped town, had been nabbed by the cops and get back to Newport that morning.

But, in a twist of fate, Devin managed to escape during the ride from the airport to the detention er, knocking out a guardat a traffic light.

The city was on high alert, urging anyone who saw Devin to report him immediately.

Joy stopped dead in her tracks, eyes wide with disbelief.

This Devin was the hitman she'd hired.

Yet her brother had promised he was dead.

How on earth was he alive and back in Newport? Frantically, Joy grabbed her phone and called Abraham.

Abraham was just as shocked. His team was top-notch, and slip-ups were rare.

But with someone like Everett involved, maybe there was a trick up his sleeve.

Unlike Joy, Abraham stayed cool,

"Joy, don't stress. Even if Devin's not dead, he's back on our nour turf d'Ibsend someone to deal with him. He won't spill anything."

"As for you, lay low. Grab a plane ticket and get out of town for a bit. Oft out Gback when it's all smoothed over. Don't do anything rash!" Joy bit her lip, "Understood." Just as she was about to buy a ticket, her phone buzzed again.

Expecting it to be Abraham, she was caught off guard when she saw it tard when e was Seleha. Joy smirked, answering the call.

"Selena, aren't you supposed to be losing it? Still goton your mind?"
