Chapter 1054
"What's the matter? Are you upset with me?" Heather asked.
'Hasn't she repented after I gave her an earful yesterday? I'm all she has in this world. She should
count herself lucky to be able to live as my cover. She would have been dead long ago if it weren't for
me. Still, she has defied me for a lousy man. She must have lost her mind!'
Hannah gave no answer or retort. As if she had not heard Heather, she remained quiet and still.
The more she behaved like this, the angrier Heather became. 'If she could pretend not to hear what I
said, how can I use her as my substitute and trust her to do her job well in the future?’

Hannah and stood before her, casting an enveloping shadow over Hannah.
Heather glared at her sister ragefully and suddenly grabbed Hannah by her collar, dragging her out of
the room.
Hannah struggled half-heartedly for a short while and gave up, knowing it was futile. She stayed quiet
until she moaned when Heather threw her onto the shiny marble floor.
Heather pulled over a floor mirror. "Look at yourself! How will you work for me if you don't look like
me?"
"I've never looked like you, Heather." Hannah moved her lips and finally spoke.
She glanced at her reflection in the mirror. Hannah’s face had paled like an apparition, and her eyes
were soulless. She had even become thinner.
Hannah looked over at her sister and noticed Heather, full of vigor and confidence, unlike herself, who
dared not even look at herself in the mirror.
'I'm not like Heather, not even one bit!’
She had no idea why others could not tell them apart and wondered whether she had imitated Heather
too well, or others were too stupid, or if they simply looked alike. 'Are our looks so important? We're
fundamentally different!'
She concluded she was unlike Heather and did not want to become her. She simply wanted to be a

'No, not necessarily Hannah Riggs. It’s exhausting to be a member of the Riggs family, not to mention
that curse. I just want to be Annie, simple and happy.'
As Hannah’s voice was husky and hardly audible, Heather did not catch it and asked with a frown,
'What did you say?"
Hannah lowered her gaze onto her reflection on the marble floor as she felt the pain from falling onto it.
She mustered the courage that seemingly came out of nowhere, looked up at Heather, and moved her
dry lips to say," I said I never looked like you! I'm not you or your shadow! I'm myself- Hannah Riggs!"
Although her body was slightly trembling out of anxiety and fear, she felt good getting it off her chest.
After all these years, what she buried deep down in her had finally exploded.
She suddenly realized it felt great to be herself, even if she had to pay the price for it, even if she might
never leave again or die. Hannah no longer cared. She did not want to be Heather's shadow ever
again. She wanted to be herself.
