Chapter 117

Landon turned Eloise's whole worldview upside down.

She wasn't one to seek thrills in love; all she wanted was to settle down with the one she loved. Even if that

person was not Harvey, she believed that one day she would find her Mr. Right.

So Eloise bolted. She was scared off by Landon's actions.

In the gazebo, Landon dropped his frivolity and watched Eloise's retreating figure with an impassive face.

The cocktail she had sipped from was still there and had a soft pink hue, looking sweet. Landon gently picked up

the glass, touched the lipstick mark Eloise left behind, and slowly drank the rest of the cocktail.

Among their friends, there were many girls like Joan.

They all had quite the stubborn streak and just had different ways of being beautiful.

But Eloise was different; she had many qualities that the other girls lacked, and her background made her far

from timid. She was simply the perfect wife candidate among their friends.

Max didn't appreciate her.

Harvey was too busy trying to regain his youthful pride to have tfor Eloise. Landon thought, "Harvey, if you

don't know how to cherish a woman, I'm willing to do it for you."

Before Eloise entered the banquet hall, she had mentally prepared herself.

Landon had told her that Harvey was dancing with Joan, so she imagined it to be a beautiful scene, but reality

was always harsh.

They were indeed a perfect match, and their coordination was impeccable. Harvey was holding Joan's slender

waist, and Joan was spinning in his arms. Regret filled the eyes of the elders around them; they were reminiscing

about how well these two used to match, and it was a pity that they didn't end up together.

Eloise watched quietly.

Thank goodness she didn't get too involved.

Thankfully, she and Harvey were not truly engaged, or how would she face all this?

The dance ended.

Harvey and Joan were both panting lightly as applause echoed around them.

Joan, who grew up overseas and was lively and warm, kissed Harvey on the face

in public. "Harvey, we dance so well together!"

Harvey didn't expect her to kiss him, and he was stunned for a moment.

He suddenly felt a particular gaze and then slowly turned around.

It was Eloise.

She stood among the crowd, watching them, not knowing how long she had been standing there.

As a couple living together, he should now comfort her or explain to her. But Harvey thought about it and

decided he needed to consider Griffin's dignity. If he coaxed Eloise in front of so many people, it would be like

announcing their engagement.

Harvey didn't want to be tied down.

So he just looked at her as their eyes conveyed meanings they both understood.

Eloise understood.

How could she not?

He knew Eloise liked him, and he knew what Eloise wanted. Eloise wanted

nothing more than a stable world for two.

But he wasn't willing to give it to her.

Just then, the music started again, and the elders began to urge Harvey and Joan to dance to another song.

Harvey wanted to refuse, but Joan laughed softly and said, "Are you afraid your girlfriend will be jealous? Or is it

because you still can't forgetand don't dare to dance even one song with me?"

"You're overthinking!" Harvey's voice was cold.

He embraced Joan again.

Joan's dancing was graceful, and her eyes were full of ambition and possessiveness when she looked at Harvey,

which was a big attraction for men. However, Harvey was thinking about something completely different.

Eloise's waist was slimmer, especially when he held her from behind; he always couldn't control his impulse.

Thinking about this made Harvey lose interest in dancing. After the song ended, he wanted to take Eloise home.

But Eloise left early.

She politely said goodbye to Pauline, saying she wasn't feeling well and hoped she could arrange a ride for her to

go home.

Pauline was quite distressed. She was a woman too, and she knew how terrible her son's actions were. How

could he and Joan dance and do all that after they had broken up?! He didn't care about his girlfriend but was

chatting with his ex?!

Pauline couldn't leave because she didn't want to be laughed at. She quietly asked Orlena to take Eloise home.

Orlena was also angry.

Today was her birthday, but as soon as Joan cback, she becthe center of attention. It was so annoying!

On the way, she kept complaining about Joan and inadvertently mentioned that Joan had betrayed her brother.

She angrily said, "Anyway, with this, she can never be a part of the Horigan family! Eloise, don't worry, my mom

dislikes her the most!"

Eloise looked at Orlena.

She was a very innocent girl, which was why Harvey spoiled her so much that he didn't even want to tell her

about Max's dark side. She didn't hate her; she even kind of liked her.

Eloise sighed softly.

Actually, she also couldn't be a part of the Horigan family.

She didn't say this; she just took out a delicate little box from her bag and put it in Orlena's hand.

Eloise sincerely said, "Orlena, happy birthday."

Orlena was a very cheerful person, but at this moment she was a bit melancholic. She asked with sworry.

"You're not going to break up with my brother, are you?"

Break up?

Eloise laughed, and she whispered no.

Because between her and Harvey, there was only ending the relationship; there was no such thing as breaking

up.

Orlena didn't understand all this; she watched Eloise get out of the car, then happily took her gift and went

home. As soon as she walked in the door, she ran into Harvey.

Harvey asked, "Where's Eloise?"

Orlena had a smug smile on her face. "You pissed her off, and she left!"

She held up the box in her hand, "This is the gift Eloise gave me!"

She couldn't wait to see what was inside, so she sat down on the couch to open

the box. Harvey wanted to leave, but for sreason, he also wanted to see what Eloise had given Orlena.

When the box was opened, there was no expensive jewelry inside.

Instead, it was an evil eye pendant.

Orlena's lips trembled slightly.

She whispered, "This is the best gift I've ever received."

Harvey softly patted his sister's head and said quietly, "Orlena, | hope you'll be safe every year." After saying

that, he picked up his car keys and headed for the parking lot.

By the tEloise got back to her apartment, it was already nearly ten o'clock.

She removed her makeup, took a hot bath, put on a black silk robe, and stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling

windows. She rarely drank on her own, but tonight she felt like having a drink.

When she was slightly tipsy, Eloise wanted to end it all.

To end her relationship with Harvey.

But whether this relationship ended or not still depended on Harvey. After all, her father's lawsuit hadn't officially

started yet, and she couldn't afford to offend him too much.

Eloise thought a lot and planned a lot.

Later, she felt a sense of oppression in her heart, so she went to the piano and played a song.

When Harvey opened the door, what he saw was Eloise playing the piano.

She did not cry, nor was there any excessive emotional outburst. There was just a

hint of sadness in the sound of the piano, but this sadness was also incredibly restrained.

That was Eloise; she was the complete opposite of Joan.

The sound of the piano suddenly stopped.

Eloise turned her head to look at Harvey with a slight smile on her face. "You're

back?"
