Chapter 688

Daniel’s eyes lit up in surprise as he asked, “Dad, you can make pies?”

Isaac’s pies looked even better than those made by the chefs on TV!

Isaac chand and replied, “I can do anything!”

Daniel, with flour dusting his small face, watched Isaac making pies. His wide eyes filled with awe and admiration.

His mother, Brittany, found the sight of her flour-covered son watching his father increasingly adorable. After rolling

out the dough, she lifted Daniel onto a chair.

“Come on, let me show you.”

Brittany took a piece of the dough and began to teach Daniel how to shape pie crusts.

Daniel tried his best to follow her instructions, but his first few attempts were less than successful. His small face

scrunched up in frustration as the filling kept spilling out of his pie crusts.

Brittany couldn’t help but laugh at his chubby, misshapen pies.

“Mum, you’re laughing at me!”

Daniel looked mortified, convinced that his mother no longer loved him.

“All right, watch me and your mum,” Isaac intervened, his voice filled with amusement.

Daniel, however, was not to be outdone. “No, I want to be just like you, Dad. I want to make the pies quickly and

well!”

After several more failed attempts, Daniel finally succeeded in making a pie that didn’t spill its filling.

He presented his pie to Brittany like a precious gem, “Mum, look at my pie.”

Brittany praised his effort, “You did a great job.”

Daniel’s face turned bright red as he stuttered, “I… I will make pies for you every day, Mum!”

Brittany gently pinched his nose, leaving a smear of white flour on it. It made him look even more adorable and

innocent.

After counting the pies they made, they realized that the other groups had made more and won certificates and

ribbons.

Daniel felt a bit disheartened, thinking he was the one who had let the team down.

Brittany crouched down to his level and comforted him, “Honey, you did really well. You’ve never made pies before,

but I know you’ll get better.”

Daniel looked into Brittany’s eyes. His gaze was resolute. “I will try harder.”

That night, they had pies for dinner.

Daniel picked out the pies he made himself, devouring them with an enthusiasm that left his face smeared with oil.

Brittany had to stop him from eating more, worried that he’d end up with indigestion.

Isaac’s pies tasted just as good as they had five years before, and Brittany had two plates before she was satisfied.

After dinner, Emily took Daniel away.

Isaac turned to Brittany. “Did you enjoy the pies?”

“Yes.”

There was no denying it; Isaac’s cooking skills were as impressive as ever.

Isaac seemed pleased with the compliment, a glint appearing in his eyes. “If you ever want more, I can make them

for you whenever you want.”

Brittany took a sip of her water. “If I wanted more pies, I could make them myself. There’s no need for

inconvenience, Mr. Salter.”

Isaac picked up on the hint. “Are you still angry at me?”

Brittany didn’t feel like discussing their past. She put down her fork and left the table.

Isaac was left sitting alone with his plate of pies. His appetite was suddenly gone.

After a while, his phone rang.

“Mr. Salter, the person in charge at the chemical factory has been contacted. They’re currently in Craneville and

are on their way back.”

“Craneville?”

“Yes. Apparently, the land was purchased by a prominent family in Craneville many years ago. The person in

charge is named Noah.”

“I see.”
