Chapter 430 Final Verdict
Emily sat quietly in the courtroom, waiting.
She had arrived early to secure a seat in the front row and to get a feel for the atmosphere.
Wearing a black hat, her face was mostly hidden from those around her.
Despite this, one person recognized her-Archibald.
He didn't approach her, though. Instead, he sat in the back corner, silently watching her.
Archibald had cto meet a friend who was the presiding judge, but seeing Emily here piqued his curiosity. He
wondered what she was up to, dressed like that.
Soon, the court session began.
Leo, Alice, and Bryan entered, taking seats either beside or behind Emily.
Leo, of course, sat next to her, eager to project the image that Emily was still part of the Ward family. This was
also a reminder to Emily of her ties to the family.
Leo's only son, Roger, was facing sentencing, and Leo hoped for the lightest possible sentence.
Emily, having lived with the Smith family for years, had developed a keen sense of awareness. She saw through
Leo's intentions.
So, when Leo tried to engage her, she remained cold and distant, just as she did with Alice.

Bryan, sitting a row behind, noticed this interaction. His expression was unreadable.
Bryan had no interest in the Ward family's mess. He was there for Alice, to support her through her father's
sentencing.
"Emily, when did you get here?" Leo asked, trying to make small talk while the judge was speaking.
Emily was aware of the media's presence and how they could twist the truth. She knew the Ward family was
adept at manipulation.
She blinked, then looked up at Leo and replied formally, "Mr. Ward."
Then she turned away, ignoring his question.
Leo was taken aback and asked again, but got the sresponse.
Emily's polite but distant demeanor was clear to the media, but Leo knew she was deliberately ignoring him.
Frustrated, Leo tapped his cane on the floor, his expression stern. "Emily, I'm talking to you. Why won't you
answer me?
"You can blme for your uncle's situation, or for your mother's death, but blood ties don't just disappear. You
are still part of the Ward family. Your mother was part of the Ward family. "How long are you going to keep this
up?"
Emily's eyebrow twitched at the word "keep this up." She looked at Leo, her eyes sparkling with a hint of
amusement.

Leo was confused by her reaction.
"Emily, have you lost your voice?" Leo's tone grew more urgent and louder.
The courtroom fell silent, and all eyes turned to them.
Leo, valuing his dignity, quickly apologized to the judge. "Sorry, please continue."
Emily's tactic had worked, disrupting Leo's plan to help Roger.
Roger soon appeared, and the sentencing followed.
After the session, the crowd dispersed.
Leo, unable to accept Roger's death sentence with a one-year reprieve, was desperate.
He saw Alice sobbing in Bryan's arms and knew he couldn't rely on her now.
Ignoring the media, he hurried to block Emily's path.
"Emily! I'm your grandfather! How can you ignorelike this?"
Emily looked up, removed her hat, and continued the charade of reconciliation for the cameras. "What are you
talking about? When did | ignore you?"

Leo was stunned. Why hadn't she spoken earlier?
Leo thought, 'She was just playing games, makinglose my temper, interrupt the court, and have to stop
talking!"
Realizing Emily's trick, Leo grew angrier.
Without Roger, the Ward family bloodline would end. What use was a granddaughter like Emily? His face
darkened, losing its earlier kindness.
"Emily, you have a deep scheme! Roger is your uncle. I've told you many times, your mother's death wasn't his
fault. Even if it was, he deserves a chance to atone, whether it's twenty or thirty years in prison.
"Even if he spends his life in prison, at least he could make amends! But how can you let him die? Have you
thought about what will happen to me?"
Emily found Leo's desperation amusing but couldn't laugh in front of the media.
She had seen enough of these high-society games to learn them well.
So, she smirked inwardly and then addressed Leo. "My uncle? Have you ever seen someone kill their own sister?"
"Mr. Ward, my mother is gone. No matter how many years pass, she won't cback. Who will compensate me?
Have you thought about what | should do?
"An eye for an eye, a life for a life. You've heard that, right? How does that makescheming? The verdict was
given by the Emerald City government. | had no part in it. If
you say I'm scheming, you're indirectly saying the government is corrupt.
"Does the entire Emerald City have to follow the Ward family's orders?"
