Chapter 629

Rosalie once felt that her father-in-law should not have abandoned such a young child and chosen death because of

lost love.

However, she figured he must once have loved his son deeply. Otherwise, now that so many years had passed,

Jonathan wouldn’t still miss his father like this.

“I will try my best to become a good wife and mother, and I’ll handle this marriage well,” she said seriously, and she

thought the same in her heart.

Now that she had chosen this path, she wanted to do it justice. Even if the marriage between her and Jonathan was

held together by just the children, she still hoped that, at the very least, the children would live in a harmonious

family rather than a family full of disputes and resentment.

When she finished speaking, she turned around and found that Jonathan was looking at her. His dark eyes seemed

to reflect the dim light that surrounded them.

“What I just said is… true.” Facing Jonathan’s gaze, Rosalie was a little uncomfortable.

“Then would you swear on it?” Jonathan uttered slowly. His cold voice sounded a little solemn in the quiet ancestral

hall.

“Swear on it?” Rosalie was stunned.

“Yes, swear in front of my father’s photo that you will never leave me again! Swear that you’ll be by my side till the

end of your life!” Jonathan’s voice poured into Rosalie’s ears like a strong stream, pressing on

her heart.

The vow was much too heavy.

Rosalie pursed her lips and kept silent.

Jonathan chuckled lightly. There was a hint of irony in his laughter. “Let’s go back to the house.” Even if Rosalie

didn’t want to swear on it, it wouldn’t matter. After all, in this lifetime, Jonathan would never let her leave his side

again.

However, when Jonathan turned around and was about to leave, Rosalie’s voice sounded from behind him. “I

swear!”

Jonathan’s footsteps suddenly halted, and he looked back rather incredulously. He saw Rosalie’s slender figure

facing the photo, while Rosalie was saying clearly, “From now on, unless Jon wants to end this marriage, I shall

never leave him. For the rest of my life till the day of my death, I will be with him. Dad, please be our witness!”

Rosalie’s voice was gentle but firm. Her beautiful profile, vaguely illuminated by the dim light, looked extremely

attractive.

Then Rosalie turned her head and looked at Jonathan, smiling slightly. “Now, will you believe what I said?”

Jonathan felt as though a ripple was spreading across his heart.

He thought that if he used their children Lillian’s treatment to force Rosalie to marry him, Rosalie would be

reluctant. She might even be sad or cry miserably. Even worse, Rosalie would be resentful toward him.

Jonathan had considered all kinds of possibilities and even told himself that he didn’t have to care about Rosalie’s

reaction. All he wanted was just to bind her to him.

However, Jonathan didn’t expect that Rosalie would face their marriage with such an attitude. When she told Calvin

that she was doing it willingly, she knew that Jonathan, who was standing beside her, must have been filled with a

sudden burst of joy.

But at that time, Jonathan had told himself not to easily believe what Rosalie said. If he really believed Rosalie’s

words, maybe in the end, all he would get would be an overwhelming disappointment.

Without expectation, Jonathan would not be disappointed.

Now, however, as Rosalie looked at Jonathan firmly and smiled softly, she looked quiet and gentle. He felt as though

he was looking at the version of her from long ago, the one that would take him seriously, love him, and say that

she wanted to protect him.

Rosalie, whom Jonathan affectionately called “Rosalie,” was also the first woman Jonathan fell in love with. He

wondered, “So, do I continue to let myself sink further into this? Do I give her everything, including all my trust and

dignity?”

Jonathan pursed his thin lips and approached Rosalie step by step, gazing at her steadily with his dark

eyes.

Rosalie didn’t avoid Jonathan’s gaze but looked straight at him.

Finally, Jonathan raised his hands and took Rosalie in his embrace. “Rosalie, I will trust you once more. Just once

more.”

He believed that she would really live up to what she had just sworn and that she would do as she promised.

In fact… it was not so much that he believed her as he wanted to believe her. He truly wanted what she just said to

become reality.

Rosalie stayed within Jonathan’s embrace, feeling his familiar vibe. She wondered, “If he’s willing to trust me, does

that mean our marriage can continue smoothly? No matter how much trust he has in me now, at least, he is willing

to trust me for the time being, and that should be a good thing!”

Alan sent Calvin back to his mansion, but Calvin didn’t want to enter it. Instead, he stood at the entrance of the

mansion, lost in his thoughts.

Alan had no choice but to stand with him.

Calvin fixed his dark eyes on the spot he was standing on. It was the same spot where Rosalie stood the other day.

At this moment, Calvin felt an indescribable pain in his heart.

He never expected so many things to happen that day when he did not get out of the car.

“It was Rosalie, the little girl who saved me when I was little! I couldn’t have been wrong. I’m sure of it!” he thought.

He had recognized her first based on his intuition. However, back then, he didn’t believe his intuition. He only

believed some superficial evidence and missed the chance just like this.

“Calvin, how much longer are you going to stand here?” Alan couldn’t help but ask.

“You can leave now. I want to stand here for a night,” said Calvin in a low voice.

“For a night?” Alan was startled. “You haven’t recovered yet, and you want to stand here all night? Do you not want

to live anymore?”

However, Calvin didn’t answer. His slender figure was still standing there without moving.

Alan couldn’t help but sigh in his heart, knowing what happened today had a great impact on Calvin.

He knew that Calvin was now just tormenting himself.

Just as Alan deliberated whether to knock out his friend and drag him into the mansion, Calvin suddenly asked the

security guard beside him, “Tell me what she said and did the night she stood here.”

The security guard instantly knew who Calvin meant. After all, only one woman had stood here for the whole night.

She didn’t leave until dawn, having been avoided by Calvin.

“That woman just stood there. She didn’t find a place to sit down or rest, and she didn’t buy anything to eat or

drink. Instead, she made several phone calls, seeming as though she was asking about a loan. But when she hung

up the phone in the end, her expression seemed quite disappointed,” the security guard said.
