Chapter 188
Chapter 188
In a flash, Hailey suddenly remembered something.
The night she returned to Wothaland and ran into Owen, he had cto this very place.

Hailey thought, ‘Could it be that Owen had purposely left it here that night? But that didn’t make sense. Why
would he do
that?’
“Miss Dalton,” Gracie called again, her voice a bit louder this time.
Hailey took a deep breath and said, “Miss Burke, | just want to clarify-your boyfriend didn’t stay here last night
“No, he didn’t. But what about the night before? The night before that?” Gracie’s eyes reddened, and her
beautiful face looked on the verge of breaking.
She said again, “Miss Dalton, from the moment you arrived, | felt something was off. But after being with Owen
for so long, I've never seen him with anyone else special. | trusted him and | trusted you, but you both have
betrayed my trust.
Hailey felt a shiver run down her spine. “Miss Burke, you're mistaken.”
“Then tell me, what exactly is your relationship with Owen?” Gracie asked coldly.
“They're cousins.” A voice cfrom the doorway. Raphael stood there, his tone detached and calm.
“Cousins?” Gracie raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised.
Raphael nodded, walking over to Hailey and putting an arm around her shoulder. “Yes, they're cousins. If you
don’t believe me, feel free to ask your boyfriend. I'm sure he’ll give you a straight answer.”
Gracie bit her lip but didn’t say anything more. She took the watch and walked out.
As Gracie left, Hailey’s body went limp with relief. She closed her eyes, her face pale, and a faint expression of

Raphael helped her to the sofa, saying softly, “Don’t worry, you didn’t do anything wrong. It's Owen who's been
bothering you, and you've been doing your best to avoid him.”
Hailey gazed into space, her head throbbing. She took a deep breath and replied, “I know.”
Raphael sighed silently, watching her with concern.
The move went smoothly, and for the next month, Hailey didn’t run into Owen or Gracie again. Life settled into a
calm routine.
Since the welcoming dinner, Kaiden had been avoiding her, while Mia, on the other hand, made sure to show off
in front of Hailey.
It wasn’t until one evening, after work, that Hailey finally figured out what was going on. She saw Mia walking
arm-in-arm with Kaiden, leaving the office intimately.
That was when she understood the odd behavior of the past few days.
She couldn't help but laugh—it was absurd. She had never been interested in Kaiden, but these two were
constantly putting on a show in front of her.
Kaiden always looked guilty when he glanced at her, almost as if he wanted to say he was only with Mia because
he had no choice. Meanwhile, Mia would boast about all the things Kaiden had bought her, constantly flaunting
her “victory.”

Though Hailey saw right through their little game, she couldn't be bothered to care. After all, she didn’t like
Kaiden, and their antics didn’t affect her in the slightest. But when their relationship started to impact their work,
she knew she had to
address it.
“Mia, cin for a moment.” Hailey said with a slight frown as she stepped out of her office.
As soon as Mia entered, the colleagues in the Translation Department stopped working eager to gossip.
“She’s here! Finally!”
“Looks like Miss Dalton is finally going to deal with Mia.”
“What's going on?” A male colleague, not fully aware of the situation, walked over curiously.
“If you ask me, Mia is being too much. Hailey obviously isn’t interested in Kaiden, but Mia keeps showing off all
the time- Kaiden this, Kaiden that. It’s really annoying.”
“Well, Kaiden’s not bad-looking. Hailey might not show interest on the outside, but who knows what she’s
thinking on the inside? Maybe she’s secretly holding a grudge against Mia.“”
“True, women always have those little thoughts. We know how it is.”
The office buzzed with gossip.
Hailey threw an important document onto the table and said, “This file is yours, right?”
Mia picked it up, glancing at it. “Yeah, what's the issue?”
“There are three mistakes. Two translation errors and one mistake with the figures. You missed a zero, Mia. Do
you realize how big a mistake that is?” Hailey’s tone was cold and stern.
Mia immediately denied it. “No way. | double-checked after translating it. There's no way there are errors.”
Hailey said, “I've already marked the errors. You can take a look yourself.”
Mia took the document, her face falling as she realized the mistakes were obvious. These were basic errors, and
it was embarrassing.
Hailey didn’t make things worse, simply saying, “Fortunately, nothing major happened. I'm docking two days of
your salary as a lesson. Now, go back to work.”

Mia bit her lip, her face dark with anger, and stormed out.
The rest of the office quickly returned to their work, though the air was still thick with gossip.
Everyone assumed the matter was over-until lunchtime, when Mia cornered Hailey outside the office building.
Mia's face was twisted with frustration as she ground her teeth and said, “Hailey, do you really want to make me
look this bad?”
Hailey blinked in confusion. “What are you talking about?”
Mia sneered, “I made a small, basic mistake, and you just had to make it public for everyone to know?”
Hailey finally understood-it was the morning's incident that had leaked.
She furrowed her brow. “I didn’t tell anyone.”
Mia laughed bitterly. “The only ones in the office this morning were you and me. If it wasn’t you, then who?”

Hailey’s voice grew colder. “I don’t know who spread it, but I'll find out.”

Mia didn’t believe her, saying with a scoff, “You're just jealous because I'm with Kaiden now, aren't you? You act
all high and mighty, pretending to be above it all, but | know you hate me.”
“Mia, | don’t care about your relationship with Kaiden. And | don’t like Kaiden. On the contrary, I think it's you
who's jealous of me,” Hailey replied sharply. “You thought the manager position was yours, but | was sent here
by the head office. You think I stole it from you, so now you're holding a grudge and trying to make my life
difficult.”
Mia lifted her chin. “That's right. This position was mine from the start. | worked hard for two years, and now you
just waltz in and take what's mine. Hailey, | can’t stand you.”
Hailey shook her head. “If you're still angry about that, | have nothing more to say. But remember, sending me
here was the company’s decision. If you have an issue, take it up with them. I'm here to work, not to play games
with you.”
