With those words, Hailey turned and walked away, leaving Mia fuming, her face a deep shade of anger.

After that, nearly everyone in the company knew about the tension between Hailey and Mia. And, of course, the

cause was Kaiden.

The constant bickering and tension between the two had becthe company’s favorite gossip. Every day,

employees from other departments could be seen visiting the Translation Department.

Hailey couldn't be bothered with it all. She just wanted to focus on her work.

Another week passed by.

On Friday evening, after finishing overtime, Hailey stretched comfortably and prepared to leave the office.

She had just finished packing up and was heading out the door when her phone rang.

It was Gracie-someone Hailey hadn't spoken to in a long time.

Hailey furrowed her brow as she stared at the caller ID for a few seconds. She then set the phone to silent,

unwilling to

answer.

Whatever Gracie’s reason for calling was, Hailey didn’t want to have any more contact with her.

She made her way home, casually placing her phone on the desk. She went to change and take a shower.

When she cout of the bathroom, her phone screen lit up again.

It was Gracie.

Hailey noticed that Gracie had already called her five or six times on the way home. She hadn't heard the earlier

calls because the phone was on silent.

‘Was there something urgent?‘ Hailey stared at the phone for a few seconds before answering.

“Miss Dalton,” Gracie’s voice cthrough, unusually sweet and flirtatious.

“Is there something you need?” Hailey asked, her voice calm.

“Are you free tomorrow, Miss Dalton? I'd like to invite you to dinner.”

“Dinner?” Hailey was taken aback.

“I want to apologize for what happened last time. | was too sensitive. Owen has already explained, and | now

know that you two are cousins. I'm really sorry, | misunderstood everything,” Gracie’s voice was full of regret.

Hailey paused, stunned.

She hadn’t expected Owen to be so direct.

“Miss Dalton? Miss Dalton?” Gracie’s voice cagain, slightly anxious, asking if Hailey was free tomorrow.

“Sorry, Miss Burke, I've been very busy recently. Since you already know everything and have apologized,

there's no need for us to keep this feud going. You don’t need to worry about Owen's past. He chose to be with

you because he likes you. You should have more confidence in yourself—and in him,” Hailey replied, her tone

firm yet calm.

“Thank you, Miss Dalton. | was too suspicious. But | still want to apologize in person. I'm about to leave

Tomorrow would be the last time.

it would all end then.

Hailey spent a sleepless night, feeling terrible the entire time. Her complexion was pale, with faint shadows

under her eyes, and her head throbbed painfully.

Phit over the past two years, she had becaccustomed to hiding her emotions and thoughts in front of

others. She had learned to appear normal, no matter how badly she felt inside.

But today, her state seemed to be a bit too much to handle.

After working all morning, Hailey noticed she had a slight fever.

It was getting worse. She hadn't had a fever in a long time, and now, she could feel her body’s weakening

resistance.

Hailey sighed weakly. Thinking about the dinner later, possibly involving alcohol, she decided she would take the

afternoon off to get an IV drip

Before she could request toff, someone knocked on her office door.

“Cin, she said, already dreading the interruption.

Mia entered, her face full of fury, her heels clicking loudly as she approached.

“Hailey, weren't you supposed to givean explanation? Where is it?” Mia spat through gritted teeth, her voice

low with

rage

Hailey blinked in surprise for a moment before sitting up straight. “I said I'd investigate, and | will. You don’t need

to be in such a hurry. These things can’t be figured out overnight.”

Mia scoffed, a bitter laugh escaping her lips. “Stop pretending. You did it, didn’t you? Who else could possibly

hold such a grudge against me?”

Hailey rolled her eyes, tired of the pointless conversation. She couldn't be bothered to engage with Mia.

Mia continued, her voice laced with venom, “You think you're so much better than everyone else, don’t you? You

cfrom a wealthy family, you graduated from a prestigious foreign university, and now you look down on us

regular people.

“Who do you think you are? You're nothing special. Everything you have, your parents gave to you. If | were in

your shoes, I'd do just as well-maybe even better.

Hailey couldn't help but hear the jealousy in Mia’s words. She felt drained, rubbing her temples. “I didn’t choose

my background, and neither did you. We both have what we have because of fate, and we need to accept that. If

everyone just sat around complaining about life, this world would be a mess.”

Mia's face went pale as she was left without an argument.

Although Mia couldn't deny Hailey’s logic, she still blamed Hailey for what happened yesterday.

Hailey had no intention of arguing. It was easy enough to check the security footage to see who had been

outside her office yesterday when she and Mia had spoken.

Once Mia left, Hailey tossed the sick leave request aside.

She had originally planned to take the afternoon off, but now she just wanted to resolve this matter with Mia and

move on. She didn’t want to be involved with her anymore.

After lunch, Hailey went to the logistics department. After greeting the staff, she requested the footage from the

security cameras outside the Translation Department.

Her office was right by the department's entrance, so the cameras would have recorded anyone who entered.

She searched the footage from around 10 a.m. the previous day.

Mia walked into her office, but shortly after, someone else approached the door.

It was a woman, dressed in a loose black top with her hair tied up. She seemed to know there were cameras, as

she kept her face hidden, deliberately staying out of view.

The woman lingered at the office door for a few seconds, then took out her phone and began recording.

The footage was crystal clear.

Hailey squinted at the black top, recognizing it but not immediately placing it.

She copied the footage and returned to the Translation Department.

By then, most of her colleagues were out for lunch, and only two or three had returned to their desks, chatting

idly. As soon as they saw Hailey, they greeted her with a wave.
