Chapter 1990 A Call

Cindy couldn't explain too much, so she just nodded and went to her office. When she came in, she noticed that

something was off. Everyone was staring at their screen, as if they were working hard, but actually, they were all

glancing at her. She knew what they were thinking, and she wanted to laugh. They thought I was a pushover, so

they kept mocking me, but now they know I have a powerful backer, none of them are even talking about me

anymore. Wow, the workplace is one mini society.

She went back to her seat, and this time, no one dared to gather around and mock her. When lunchtime came, she

sorted out her prior designs and put it on Serena's desk. When she came out of Serena's office, she saw the lady

who argued with her earlier heading toward the elevator. Cindy had nothing to hide, so she strode over.

However, the lady seemed scared to see her, so she looked away and waited for the next ride instead of going into

the same elevator as Cindy. The people who came in with her stayed a few feet away from her as well. They used

to dislike her, but now they feared her.

While she was in the elevator, she remembered what Mr. Kaufmann told her. He said he asked her to see him

because Gary wanted him to. Gary must have known that she wasn't faring too well at work, so he called Mr.

Kaufmann the night before and asked him to help Cindy out. Cindy was at a loss. She didn't know why Gary helped

her so much. She was just a plain woman after all.

She had never done anything for him ever since they knew each other. In fact, he was the one helping her all this

time. He recommended the investment project and got her a job, and now, he was helping her clear all the minor

obstacles around her. She didn't know what to say. Instead of feeling happy, she was at a loss.

Cindy took her phone out, and the moment the elevator stopped, she went to a corner and leaned against the wall.

Then, she scrolled through her contacts until she found Gary's number. Even Mr. Kaufmann came to help. I have to

apologize to Gary for the inconvenience.

Ever since she knew Gary, she had been saying thank you all the time, and that didn't sit well with her. If she owed

him too many favors, it would weigh down on her. She didn't like to take advantage of people, but it seemed that

she had taken huge advantage of Gary.

Gary took the call immediately. "So, what happened?"

Cindy sighed. "I went to see Mr. Kaufmann, and he told me a lot. You helped me again, Mr. Frye, and I don't know

how to thank you."

Gary smiled. "I told you, you don't have to be so formal with me. It's just a message, and I didn't do anything. You

don't have to think too much about it."

Cindy interpreted that as Gary being polite with her. No matter how little Gary helped her out, she had to be

thankful. Cindy was having a dilemma. She wanted to thank him, but the only way she knew how to was to treat

him to a meal.

But most of the time when they went out for a meal, Gary would be the one to pay, and that put Cindy in an

awkward spot. Gary had everything, so he probably wouldn't care about any gift she could buy for him. In the end,

Cindy had no better idea, so she said, "I'll treat you to a meal when we're free." She felt embarrassed after saying

that. For some reason, she thought it sounded really insincere.
