Chapter 735 "Citrine, what's so great about Sebastian anyway? He's not good enough for you." Hastings hadn't noticed anything strange about Citrine as he sat down beside her. She leaned back in her chair, eyes tightly closed. In the darkness, you'd have to look closely to see the flush of pink coloring her cheeks.

Half-asleep, Citrine vaguely heard Hastings's voice. She frowned, clearly annoyed, and shot back automatically, "Go away." Her tone brimmed with utter contempt.

A bitter smile twisted at Hastings's lips. "Citrine, don't treatlike this, please?" Suddenly, old memories surged up in Citrine's mind-countless moments from her past life when Hastings had wronged her. She remembered every single slight, never letting herself forget, not even for a day.

So when she heard his plea, she didn't hesitate. "No," she said flatly.

Hastings looked at her with a helpless, almost desperate expression. He just couldn't reach her anymore. After a moment, he asked, "Do you really like Sebastian?" Citrine shifted uncomfortably on the bench, turning her head away as she tried to find a position that didn't make her feel worse. She didn't bother answering him.

Her silence felt like a confession. Hastings's whole body ached, his heart clenching in his chest as if someone had reached in and squeezed the life out of it. Jealousy and hatred surged through him like a tidal wave, but he forced it back down-barely.

He loved her too much. He didn't even dare to be openly jealous for fear she'd hate him even more.

All that bitterness had to go somewhere, so he directed it at Sebastian instead.

For a moment, he wished Sebastian would just drop dead. Maybe then, Citrine would finally look his way again.

Hastings's gaze grew dark as he muttered to himself, "Do you really like him that much? What does he have that I don't?" Citrine, groggy and irritated, just wanted Hastings to stop talking so she could rest. After he finished, she finally snapped, "Shut up." Hastings stared at her, then suddenly blurted out, "What if I said I didn't mind you two? I'd be willing to be your second, if that's what it takes." He looked at her with a desperate hope flickering in his eyes.

Citrine said nothing, her head spinning.

Just then, Sebastian appeared, carrying a mug of hot water. He caught the tail end of the conversation, hearing every word Hastings had said.

Sebastian's grip tightened on the mug as he strode toward them, eyes locked on Hastings.

"Mr. Cooper, I've seen shameless people before, but never someone so eager to play second fiddle." Startled by the voice, Hastings jerked his head up.

As Sebastian approached, Hastings spat, "Sebastian, you're just a broke nabody. If you really think Citrine would ever choose you, you're deluding yourself. She's justyoung and wants a bit of fun-give it a little time, she'll get bored of you." Hatred flickered in Hastings's eyes.

Sebastian had no intention of explaining his relationship with Citrine to Hastings. He kept his Voice opld. "Maybe she'll tire of me, maybe she won't. All I know is, even if she doesn't want me, she'd neverspare you a second glance." He let out a scornful laugh. "Can't you see how much she despises you?" "Shut up!" Hastings snapped, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white.

Sebastian just smiled. "If you're so aware of how much Citrine can't you stand you, maybe you should do us all a favor and disappear."
